Aikido is a modern japanese art of self-defense which brings the tradition of budo to its highest form. It was founded by Morihei Ueshiba (1883 – 1969) and developed its movements through numerous pupils of the founder. Aikido is purely defensive and cultivates movements that redirect the force of an attack. Salvation of all life, the harmonization of universal and individual ki are the main points of Aikido. Aikido opens our minds and develops awareness, attention and politeness. It trains our whole senso-motorical condition. Breathing and stretching develop rhythm and finer perception. Movement exercises with partners build up higher attention and lead out of rigid and inflexible structures of behavior. Just from the beginning, participants become aware that power and flexibility work perfectly together. There are no further preconditions to start with Aikido than to enjoy movement and the will to exercise continuously. In contrast to many other arts of movement and self-defense, Aikido always allows training with a partner. Beginners and advanced participants, old and young, men and women can practice together. With partner changes within the class, everybody will be trained according to his or her rhythm and abilities. |
